PITEBYGDENS FORSKARFÖRENING

Welcome to "Pitebygdens Forskarförening". We are a non-profit society working to facilitate the possibilities to make genealogy research in the parish of Piteå. See map. The actual number of members is more than 700.

"Pitebygdens Forskarförening" is founded for everyone who is interested in the history of a farm, a village, a family or a name.

We are all "happy amateurs", mostly living in the area around the River of Piteå, who are trying to help each other through the centuries and we are doing research connected to Piteå parish.

The society has for a number of years committed itself in building a collection of rewritten church-records from Norr- & Västerbotten (the north part of Sweden). The material has been bought or donated by our members. We are now working with registering this material in a digital-readable form to be able to sell these collections on CD's.

We are also having a number of meetings with lecturers open to everybody and sometime day trips around Piteå.

Our meeting place is Sommarro at Framnäs folkhögskola in Öjebyn just outside west of Piteå. The premises is unmanned but our members has unlimited and free access anytime they like.

A membership in our society entitles to free access to Sommarro, our Magazine that is published 4 times a year, invitations to meetings and a discount on the material we sell.
